Global Trends Manager, Walgreen Boots Alliance

From spotting the next unicorn craze to proving the next big thing!

Grace Vernon – Global Trends Manager, Walgreen Boots Alliance

We think Grace Vernon might just have one of our best ever jobs, after studying Fashion Marketing and Communications at Nottingham Trent and going on to become a buyer, Grace quickly realised her passion lay in spotting the next big thing.

As Global Trends Manager for Walgreens Boots Alliance, Grace now leads a team of people whose job it is to seek out emerging trends, discover the next unicorn craze and find new products that we didn’t even know we needed!

So what kind of person is this a good role for? Grace shared with us that the biggest thing for her is curiosity, to be a trends manager you need to be tapping into every channel, trade show and opportunity out there. But we learnt that it’s not just enough to spot the trends you then need to turn the trend into a story, back it up with data and create a full picture for those who decide what will be part of the product ranges of the future.

Grace’s role is all about innovation, from the way she and her team interact with people both inside and outside of Walgreens Boots Alliance through to how they track and prove the trends they are working on.

Sound like a career for you? Grace’s advice is to not doubt yourself…ever! It’s ok not to know everything, lots of people don’t have all the answers but stay curious, believe in your own ability, seek out people who have different skills to you and the world really could be your unicorn!
